5th Graders Raise Awareness for Visual Snow Syndrome

Pine Springs Preparatory Academy in Holly Springs, North Carolina, is a school with nearly 1,400 students. It’s a school where kids learn to think critically, be creative, and solve problems, preparing them for a bright future. Every year, the school hosts a Health Fair Expo, where students research different health conditions, diseases, or injuries. They learn about the symptoms, causes, and treatments of each condition and then share their findings with their classmates. It’s a fun way to learn and practice speaking in front of others! This year, a group of fifth graders, Charlotte, Jett, Alex, Jude, and Aria, decided to focus on Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). With help from their teacher, Ms. Erin Harden, they made an amazing display to teach everyone about the condition. They explained that Visual Snow Syndrome causes people to see “static” like the kind you might see on an old TV screen, along with other symptoms. They also shared information about what might cause VSS and how it can be treated. To help spread the word, they handed out stickers, and brochures from the Visual Snow Initiative (VSI), an organization that helps people understand VSS and offers support. Their goal was to teach everyone about VSS, a condition that wasn’t well-known before. Thanks to their hard work, their classmates and teachers learned a lot about the condition and how it can affect people’s lives. A big congratulations to Charlotte, Jett, Alex, Jude, and Aria for their amazing project! They’ve done an awesome job raising awareness about Visual Snow Syndrome and helping others learn about it. If your school has done a project or research about Visual Snow Syndrome, we’d love to hear about it!  SHARE YOUR STORY

VSI at KidzCon 2024

KidzCon 2024 in Los Angeles was an epic Halloween celebration! There was music, dancing, food trucks, and tons of fun costumes. Families came dressed up as their favorite characters and enjoyed a weekend full of games, shows, and exciting activities! This year, the Visual Snow Initiative (VSI) joined the event to teach everyone about Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). It was a great chance to share what VSS is and how it can affect kids just like you! The event had awesome live shows, fun exhibits to explore, and special moments where kids could talk to each other about VSS. Famous actors, models, and singers joined in to help raise awareness about VSS. Introducing VSI 4 Kids One of the coolest things at KidzCon was the launch of VSI 4 Kids, a special resource just for kids and families. It helps everyone learn about VSS in a fun, easy-to-understand way! VSI 4 Kids is here to remind everyone that kids can have VSS too, and we’re here to help!  At KidzCon, some kids said, “Hey, that’s what I’ve been seeing!” and realized they’ve been having VSS symptoms. Parents were happy to finally know what was happening and learned how to help their kids feel better.  VSI 4 Kids is like a big key that helps families find the answers they’ve been looking for! A Big Thank You Thank you to everyone who asked great questions, shared their stories, and helped raise awareness about VSS. Together, we can make sure kids and families get the support they need. Thanks for making KidzCon 2024 so fun and unforgettable! We can’t wait for next year!

New Resource for Kids with Visual Snow Syndrome

Welcome, we are VSI 4 Kids!  This special project is made just for kids and teens to help understand and manage Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). This is the first time there’s been something like this for kids, so it’s a big deal! What is VSI 4 Kids? VSI 4 Kids is part of the Visual Snow Initiative (VSI), and is dedicated to helping kids and teens who have VSS or might not know they have it. Sometimes, it’s hard to explain how you feel, especially when it comes to something like VSS. VSI 4 Kids wants to change that by offering a fun and easy way for kids to learn about VSS and get help! How VSI 4 Kids Works VSI 4 Kids website will have lots of fun tools to help kids learn about VSS. There will be cartoons, drawings, and simple words to explain what VSS is, how to feel better, and how to talk about it with others. Here are some exciting things you’ll find: VSS Alphabet: A fun tool that teaches important words about VSS, making it easier to talk to doctors. What is VSS: A section that explains VSS in simple words, with fun cartoon pictures. It also shows the common symptoms of VSS. Coping Strategies: Helpful tips to feel better and manage symptoms. Who Can Help: Learn about doctors, teachers, and family members who can help. It also has a template to talk to parents or teachers about what you’re feeling. Draw Your Symptoms: A fun section where you can draw pictures of what your symptoms look like and share your story. You can send your drawings to doctors to help them understand the condition better and feel creative at the same time! Looking to the Future In the future, VSI 4 Kids hopes to reach even more people. We plan to work with schools and doctors to help everyone understand VSS better. By educating teachers and doctors about VSS, VSI 4 Kids wants to make sure kids with VSS have a supportive environment at school, at home, and everywhere else. VSI 4 Kids isn’t just a website—it’s part of a big movement to help kids with Visual Snow Syndrome.
